“Unlikely Heroes: Firefighters Save a Dog’s Life with Mouth-To-Snout Resuscitation”

Last week, a Santa Monica apartment complex was on fire and firefighters bravely came to the rescue. They found a little puppy named Nalu who was unresponsive and not breathing. Luckily, one of the firefighters saved the adorable puppy and took it to a shelter. It turns out that poor Nalu had been abandoned by their owner.

Amid the smoke and intense heat, firefighter Andrew Klein recounted how he stumbled upon a lifeless body. Upon touching the individual, Klein quickly came to the realization that the person had passed away, as he shared with KABC.

Klein saved the little pup’s life by performing CPR directly to its nose and mouth. He then equipped the puppy with an oxygen mask and monitored him for about 20 minutes until he started breathing again without assistance. As soon as the dog regained consciousness and began moving, Klein’s neighbors helped transport him to a nearby animal hospital for further care.

The tragic incident of a fire at Crystal Lamirande’s apartment led to the loss of her beloved pet Nalu, who was a Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu mix. Despite putting in all efforts, Nalu could not be saved. The fire also resulted in the loss of all of Lamirande’s possessions. However, it did lead to a silver lining as she has now built a positive relationship with her local fire department.

Klein shared with KTLA that Nalu’s rescue was truly remarkable, as he had experienced several animal rescues in the past that didn’t end up as successfully. As someone who has worked on numerous animal rescues, this was definitely a highlight for Klein.

The team happily reported that his return was a triumph for both the department and themselves. The firefighters successfully extinguished the fire in just ten minutes, thankfully without any harm being done.
