In the beginning of April, a phone call reached the Washington County Animal Shelter reporting an unexpected visitor. A stray dog, who goes by the name of Blue, sought refuge at the home of a kind-hearted stranger. Recognizing the need for immediate assistance, an animal control officer promptly arrived at the scene to collect the charming pit bull mix and transport him back to the shelter.
The exact duration of Blue’s time living on the streets remains a mystery, however, it was evident that the stray dog had an affinity for every person he encountered. Tammy Davis, the executive director of the shelter, described Blue as a cheerful and carefree pup. Although he initially displayed some shyness and discomfort in the presence of other dogs, his affectionate nature towards humans and the shelter staff was truly remarkable.
As a result of the global COVID-19 outbreak, the shelter had to implement a new policy of closing its doors to the public and allowing visits only by appointment. This change in routine led to a quieter environment with fewer people around. Consequently, Blue found himself patiently residing in his kennel for several months. Little did he know, however, that this seemingly mundane situation would eventually bring unexpected benefits his way.
In order to showcase Blue to potential adopters, the shelter decided to share a video of him happily playing with his beloved toy on their official Facebook page. Just a few moments after the video was posted, a heartfelt comment appeared beneath it, exclaiming, “That playful dog is none other than my very own!”
Six months earlier, Blue had unexpectedly disappeared from his loving home in Tennessee. Despite his dad’s relentless efforts to find him, he was faced with the difficult decision of moving to Texas for employment purposes. Believing that he might never lay eyes on his beloved companion again, a glimmer of hope appeared when a close friend forwarded him the Facebook video, revealing Blue’s lively presence.
The only task remaining was to verify the veracity of the man’s claim to be Blue’s owner. Davis mentioned that Blue had a special attachment to a blue squeaky ball at the shelter, and coincidentally, this ball was seen in a video of Blue playing. As the conversation with the supposed owner commenced, he promptly confirmed, “Yes, I indeed have photographs of my dog.” True to his word, he shared images of Blue in his very own abode, with none other than that beloved blue ball. The sheer coincidence left Davis astounded, exclaiming, “It was absolutely mind-boggling!”
Blue’s father traveled a distance of 1,200 miles to be with his beloved dog, and the reunion surpassed all expectations. The emotional connection between them was evident as Blue was initially taken aback, questioning if his eyes were deceiving him. However, it only took a moment for his shock to subside, and he showered his dad with affectionate kisses. Overwhelmed with joy, the man couldn’t help but shed tears of happiness.
